History

Like the Suchindram Temple, Lord Hari and Haran stand on the north and south and shower their graces upon the devotees. Like the first temple of the Sivarathri Marathan. Lord Vishnu stands at the left side of the main deity. It is the most ancient temple and it belonged to the Kings belonging to Aai and Vel dynasties.

Then it went to the Kings of Venadu and the Travancore Kingdom was formed after the name Thirvithancide. In the 8th century AD, there was a Yajna, the Sasanas for those talks about three places such as: Chenkody near Tiruvattar, Puthancode and Thiruvithancode. This is dealt with in detail by Vidwan S.Sathasivam Pillai's "Cheranadum Cheathambum".

The temple at Thiruvithancode is spread in 3 acres of land. There are separate ways to the Temples of Lord Siva and Lord Vishnu and there is a common Pathway too. There are separate staffs to these two temples and flags will be hoisted in both the staffs at the same time. Lords Hari and Haran traveling around the temple on elephants is something to be looked at.
